2025 Spring Native Plant Sale a Success

Saturday, April 12th marked an exciting day for the Mayne Island Conservancy with the hosting of our Spring Native Plant Sale. People lined up early to get their pick of plants, all of which were grown on-island from locally collected seeds and cuttings at our native plant nursery. The nursery was started in 2011 to help meet demand for native plants that are locally adapted to the conditions and unique ecosystems on SḴŦAḴ | Mayne Island. Amongst our selection of shrubs, trees, and grasses, the yarrow, red-flowering currant, and red columbine proved to be crowd favorites.
Native plants have provided important food sources, medicinal properties, and cultural uses for the W̱SÁNEĆ people for thousands of years. In addition to traditional uses, native plants support healthy ecosystems full of biodiversity. In the last several decades, factors such as increased deer browse, and the spread of invasive species have made it difficult for native species to thrive where they were once abundant. Events like the Native Plant Sale support our efforts to restore SḴŦAḴ | Mayne Island ecosystems and provide opportunities for the community to add beautiful native plants to their own gardens. Including native plants in your garden increases habitat connectivity and food for wildlife, and provides you with opportunities to view and support these beautiful creatures.
If you missed the Spring Native Plant Sale and are interested in adding native plants to your property, we have a limited selection still available for purchase!
