Annual Christmas Bird Count
The Annual Christmas Bird Count is a going concern on Mayne Island. Our community of Birders are a dedicated group who will go out to do their bit regardless of the elements. Michael Dunn is the lead organizer of the annual tradition and is happy to hear from interested newcomers. Neighbourhood groups are well established and group leaders are queued and ready to go. Michael will point new participants to their neighbourhood team leaders who will organize the time and place for gathering. Dress for the weather and bring your binoculars, notebook and camera.
The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) on Mayne contributes to wildlife survey data collected in over 2000 locations around the Western Hemisphere. The information collected by thousands of CBC volunteer participants forms one of the world’s largest sets of wildlife survey data. The results are used by conservation biologists, environmental planners, and naturalists to assess the population trends and distribution of birds.
