Annual Fall Native Plant Sale

October 5, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Native plants are all around us. They provide us with a stunning visual display that changes through the seasons, all while providing food and habitat for native animals, insects, and fungi. Plants are the essential building blocks of our local ecology, and we’re fortunate to live in a place with more plant diversity than nearly anywhere else in Canada! Did you know there are 340 different native plant species currently recorded on Mayne Island?

We’ll be holding our annual Fall Native Plant Sale on October 5th from 10am to 1pm at the Farmers Market.

All of our plants are grown on island from locally collected seeds and cuttings. Come check out our selection of native trees, shrubs, and perennial wildflowers such as great camas, which we have been nurturing into maturity from seeds started 6-7 years ago!

Introducing and maintaining native plants on your property is one of the best ways you can contribute to a healthy local ecosystem, provide food for pollinators, and attract beneficial and interesting wildlife into your garden. Our nursery manager Rob Underhill will be on-hand to provide advice on which plants may work best for your site.

If you hold current membership with the Mayne Island Conservancy, you are invited to place a pre-order for pickup on the day of the sale. Since we are a small producer, supplies are limited and pre-orders are recommended.

So excited about your plant sale! Looking forward to planting with Mayne Island pollinators in mind. I miss my incredible, beautiful teaching garden in East Vancouver. It’s been a slow process getting our garden going here!
Cheers,
Gin
