Bird Identification with Michael Dunn

December 1, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Bird ID Poster

Did you know that winter is the best time to see shorebirds and waterfowl in the Gulf Islands?

Birding is both a passion and a practice that takes time to perfect. Winter on Mayne is the best time to see a large diversity of shorebirds, sea birds, gulls and waterfowl that we wouldn’t see at other times of the year. On December 1, 2018 1-4 pm at the Agricultural Hall, Michael Dunn will take you through a review of the wintering birds found on Mayne and its marine waters. He will highlight tips to identification, especially those species that are toughest to determine in winter plumage. The session is interactive and will be geared to what’s most helpful to the participants. There will also be some simple tests to reinforce some of the tips. It is anticipated that the whole group will get a chance to go outside and practice during the session. Small snacks and hot beverages will be provided after the event. Please come dressed for the weather, bring binoculars or spotting scopes and your favourite ID book or app. See you December 1st.
