We’re Batty For Bats!

August 8 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Join us for a free event observing and learning about bats!

CONFIRMED TIME: 8pm at Glen Echo rd, at the roundabout

Bats are the second-largest group of mammals in the world, the largest being rodents. Other than Antarctica, bats can be found on every continent, and they are key players in the ecosystem wherever they are found. Here on SḴŦAḴ | Mayne Island the bats are insectivores, and can catch 1000 mosquitos every night (what’s not to love about that?!).

The seven species of bats we have identified for SḴŦAḴ |  Mayne Island are an intrinsic part of our community, and deserve everything we can do to protect and conserve their habitats and lifecycle components. Learning all about who they are and what they do is very important for helping bats to thrive on this island.

What to look forward to on this batty evening:

A presentation on bats from Mayne Conservancy Naturalist, Michael Dunn
Interactive bat-themed activities
Listening to echolocation with our echo-meters
Observing bats foraging at twilight
Snacks and hot chocolate by cash donation

Bring a picnic blanket or a lawn chair, a mug for hot chocolate, and a cozy clothing!
