Mycology enthusiast Melanie Hess loves to teach the introduction of how to identify mushrooms. In this
exciting talk about foraging, we will explore how to identify fungi for the table! We will be going over
the basics of mushroom ID. She will guide us through the basic characteristics of mushrooms, as seen
macroscopically (with the naked eye), to assist you in identifying your foraged mushrooms.  She will also
speak about those that are inedible, toxic, or deadly.

1pm to 3pm – Mushroom Identification and Talk at the Ag Hall

Bring your mushrooms to the Ag Hall or simply swing on by for mushroom identification and learning with Melanie and volunteers.

Melanie is the Past President of the Southern Vancouver Island Mycological Society. She has been
working with the organization for over 12 years. She considers herself an all-around outdoorswoman
with pastimes including fly fishing, mountaineering, exploring and foraging.
