How can YOU contribute to pollinator research and conservation?

Join guest speakers Sarah Johnson and Andrew Simon to learn how to help native pollinators and plants in the islands.

Sarah Johnson (PhD candidate at SFU) and Andrew Simon (MSc candidate at UVic) are teaming up with the Mayne Island and Galiano Island Conservancies on a citizen science research project intended to inform pollinator research and conservation in the southern Gulf Islands.

Seasonal drought is a critical factor limiting the availability of resources for pollinators, yet our understanding of its impact remains limited. Your observations of plants and their pollinators can improve our understanding of these relationships, in turn informing the cause of pollinator habitat restoration in the region. Following this short talk, we will guide you through the process of contributing to this research program using iNaturalist.

As an outcome of this inter-island initiative, we will produce a catalogue of important pollinator plants that you can grow in your backyard!
