Staff Changes – Farewell Tamara

Published by Rob Underhill on

At the end of September, we bid a fond farewell to Tamara Bonsdorf, who has now completed her work term with the Mayne Conservancy. Over the past six months Tamara has contributed to a broad range of projects, showcasing her adaptability and passion for conservation. We’ll miss her positive energy both in the office and out in the field. Tamara and other seasonal staff make essential contributions to our work. They bring new energy and ideas, helping keep our organization limber, and play a critical role in completing hands-on work.

During the past six months Tamara led our volunteer work parties, engaged with landholders to monitor bat populations, helped care for plants in our native plant nursery, and assisted with our marine monitoring programs. We put Tamara’s previous experience working with Cascadia Seaweed and the Peninsula Streams Society to good use during our kelp monitoring and habitat restoration projects. She played a big role in collecting and analysing the bull kelp data collected by us and our project partners on other islands.

Tamara worked hard to keep our parks and protected areas clear of invasive plants, supervising volunteers during weekly habitat restoration sessions. She rose to new challenges such as completing freediving surveys to monitor changes in eelgrass, and gained experience monitoring terrestrial ecosystems at Henderson Park and the Hedgerow wetland.

We wish Tamara the best as she continues her master’s degree at Royal Roads University!
