Volunteer to help Mayne Conservancy complete field surveys in the marine environment around Mayne Island.

Participating in one of our annual marine mapping programs is a great way to learn about the local marine environment and share your passion for the ocean with other community members.

Kelp bed monitoring by kayak

Summer staff complete annual bull kelp monitoring around Mayne Island.

The required skills and abilities for this position vary depending on the specific task. For kelp and eelgrass surveys we need volunteers who are comfortable operating a kayak in fair weather. Some of our survey sites have high currents, and a typical survey involves about 8-12km of paddling.

We are interested in hearing from volunteer scuba divers for marine monitoring, education programs, and to take video for creation of education materials.

No experience? No kayak? We still want to hear from you! Some of our surveys and support roles do not require and special experience or knowledge.
