Welcome 2025 Seasonal Staff

We are excited to welcome three seasonal staff to our team in 2025! Seasonal staff play a critical role in our work, contributing hands-on to habitat restoration, native plant propagation, public engagement, and marine monitoring programs. We are fortunate to attract highly qualified, passionate people to work with us each year, and the team for 2025 is shaping up to be another great one. Please welcome Eden, Mary, and Kassidy to our community, and say hello when you see them at the markets or out and about in the parks.
Eden Perry – Ecosystems Technician April – September

We welcomed Eden to our staff team at the beginning of April, and she will be working with us until the end of September in the role of Ecosystem Technician. Eden has been a frequent visitor of the Southern Gulf Islands since the age of 10 and credits her love for the ocean to the tide pools of Gabriola Island. She graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Land and Food Systems, specializing in environmental studies and marine conservation. Since finishing her degree, she has worked in remote communities and research stations across the Yukon, northern Vancouver Island, and the Broughton Archipelago.
When not working, Eden can be found volunteering in community gardens, swimming in the ocean, or looking for lichens in the forest. She even obtained her scuba diving certifications in 2024 so that she could spend more time surrounded by all her favorite marine creatures. Eden looks forward to a career full of time spent in and on the water, and fostering strong community connections through ecological stewardship.
Mary Nightingale – Ecosystems Technician May – June

Mary will be working with us for eight weeks starting May 5th in the role of Ecosystems Technician. Following her eight weeks with us, she will head across Active Pass and complete another eight-week work term with the Galiano Conservancy Association. She will switch places with Kassidy Kelly, who will start with Galiano Conservancy May 5th and work on SḴŦAḴ | Mayne Island for July and August.
Mary grew up in the Okanagan, later moving to Victoria to complete a degree in Geography and Environmental Studies at UVic. There, she worked with the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea, and with Parks Canada, to learn about the marine and terrestrial environments in the region. Since then, she’s had the opportunity to explore the mountains and land while working in Manning Park, Agassiz, and Chilliwack as an environmental educator and restoration technician. Mary is looking forward to spending her free time on SḴŦAḴ | Mayne Island embroidering, paddle boarding, and taking photos!
Kassidy Kelly – Ecosystems Technician July – August

Kassidy will join us early in July straight from the Galiano Conservancy Association. She has worked in natural areas management and conservation for the past five years since graduating from UVic with a degree in Geography and Environmental Studies. Her past experience includes work with the Nature Trust of BC, The Pender Islands Conservancy, and the City of Surrey’s Urban Forest Team. Kassidy enjoyed her previous experience in the Southern Gulf Islands working with the Pender Islands Conservancy, where she merged conservation stewardship and education with hands-on fieldwork. She is excited to be coming back to the islands and to get to know the communities and natural areas on Galiano and SḴŦAḴ | Mayne Island.
